The Celebrity DUI / DWI Round Up is a monthly report that covers the stories of recent DUI / DWI arrests involving celebrities.
However, the point of this article is not to simply point out the fact that celebrities have been arrested on charges of intoxicated driving. Instead, the point of this article is to highlight the legal options available to celebrities (and non-celebs alike) after a DUI arrest.
At Levow DWI Law, P.C., our DWI defense attorneys have seen too many individuals simply plead guilty after a DWI arrest without considering all of their legal options.
We have successfully defended many individuals arrested on DUI / DWI charges, and are dedicated to helping individuals understand their rights, as well as their legal options, after an arrest.
This month’s edition of the celebrity DUI / DWI Round Up includes several celebrities who were arrested on DUI charges in April including a US Women’s Soccer star, a Disney actress and a famous Hollywood actor.
The now-retired US Women’s Soccer player and former World Cup star was recently arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) in Portland, OR.
According to police reports, Abby Wambach was stopped by law enforcement officers just after 11:00pm on Saturday, April 2nd, after she had reportedly run a red light. Police arrested the former soccer player after she allegedly failed a field sobriety test and breath test.
Reports show that Wambach initially plead “not guilty” to the charges, but court records indicate that she plead guilty in a court appearance a week later. The plea means that Wambach may have her charges dismissed within a year if she enrolls in a diversion program available to first-time DUII offenders in Oregon.
Debby Ryan, who formerly starred in Disney’s hit show Jessie, was arrested on drunk driving charges last month in Los Angeles, CA.
The 22-year-old singer and actress was reportedly driving in L.A. when she crashed into another vehicle after making a left-hand turn.
Police responded to the scene of the accident and arrested Ryan on DUI charges after she allegedly failed a field sobriety test.
TMZ reports that the actress was initially arrested on felony DUI charges because the driver of the other vehicle had claimed injury in the accident, however the charges were later reduced to a misdemeanor DUI.
Actor Cole Hauser, who is best known for his role as Carter Varone in the film 2 Fast 2 Furious, was recently arrested for DUI in Los Angeles, CA.
Hauser was reportedly driving on the US 101 freeway in LA when he was pulled over for reckless driving. Police reports note that Hauser’s vehicle was swerving in and out of lanes when he almost crashed into another vehicle.
After pulling over his vehicle, officers allege that Hauser seemed intoxicated. He submitted to field sobriety testing and was then arrested and taken to the local police department where he was booked for DUI.
