Many celebrities find themselves in the news after being arrested on DUI charges. The Celebrity DUI / DWI Roundup is a monthly report that details recent DUI arrests involving celebrities throughout the country.
However, the point of the Celebrity DUI / DWI Roundup is not to simply highlight celebrities who have been arrested for driving while intoxicated. Additionally, this monthly report is meant to highlight the legal options available to all drivers (whether celebrity or not) who are arrested on DUI charges.
At Levow DWI Law, P.C., our DUI defense attorneys see far too many individuals essentially “fall on the sword” after being arrested for drunk driving by simply pleading guilty to the charges against them. The fact of the matter is that there are often many alternative legal options available to those arrested for DUI, such as challenging the arrest, the stop, the chemical tests - which can result in reduced penalties or dismissal of the charges.
100% of individuals who plead guilty are found guilty. Conversely, there are many ways to challenge a DWI arrest. If you have been arrested for DUI, we encourage you to consult with a qualified DWI lawyer to understand all the legal options available to you before proceeding.
This month’s Celebrity DUI / DWI Roundup covers multiple DUI arrests involving celebrities including TV personality Jackie Warner, NY Jets Tight End Austin Seferian-Jenkins, and Nicolas Cage’s son Weston Cage.
Jackie Warner was recently arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, and later charged with driving under the influence, after allegedly crashing her vehicle into a pole before backing up into a police car.
According to reports, the American fitness trainer and star of Bravo TV’s reality show Work Out crashed her vehicle into a pole in the West Hollywood area of Los Angeles, CA. When police arrived on the scene of the accident Warner apparently backed her car into the police officer’s vehicle causing one of the officers to jump out of the way in order to avoid being struck.
TMZ News reported that:
“Sources connected with Jackie tell us she went to lunch that afternoon and had 1 martini. She took an Uber to and from the restaurant. The sources say when she got home she took an Ambien, went to sleep, and when she woke up she was in the hospital ... with no recollection of driving.”
The same sources suggested that Warner likely woke up from a deep sleep after taking the Ambien and was not aware that she had been sleep-driving.
However, law enforcement officers say that Warner submitted to a breathalyzer test and that she allegedly registered a BAC of .08% - the legal limit in California.
Ultimately, Warner was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon before being taken to jail where her bail was set at $60,000. She was also charged with driving under the influence, as well as hit and run for property damage.
“She was arrested and the investigation is ongoing, and the case will be presented to the district attorney’s office upon completion of the investigation,” Detective Hom from the WHPD told Us Weekly.
We will see how Warner and her DUI defense lawyer handle the situation when she appears in court later this month.
Weston Cage was arrested for DUI on Saturday, February 4th, after being involved in multiple accidents in the San Fernando Valley area.
Cage was allegedly driving in the San Fernando Valley around noon when he was involved in a minor accident involving another vehicle, according to TMZ. After exchanging information with the other driver involved in the accident, Cage allegedly fled the scene.
Police say that the 26-year-old son of famed Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage then crashed into stop signs, a street sign, parked cars and multiple mailboxes before eventually crashing into a tree.
Police responded to the scene of the accident and arrested Cage for DUI before he was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the accident.
Cage was ultimately taken to jail where he was booked on DUI charges and was later released on $30,000 bail.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins recently negotiated a plea deal in his DUI case stemming from an arrest in Tampa Bay last year.
The star tight end for the New York Jets was arrested on DUI charges in September 2016 after being pulled over by Florida Highway Patrol in Tampa Bay for allegedly speeding and weaving through traffic. We covered Seferian-Jenkins’ DUI arrest story in our Celebrity DUI / DWI Roundup in September.
According to court documents, Seferian-Jenkins recently pled no contest to a reckless driving charge in exchange for 1 year of probation and 50 hours of community service.
He will also be required to attend DUI classes and must pay a $500 fine.
