The City of Vineland, New Jersey

Located in Cumberland County, Vineland is a city with a total population of around 60,724 residents as of 2010. The city's population size continues to increase annually as it gains more popularity on the east coast. Of the three principals of New Jersey, Vineland is one of them, including Millville and Bridgeton.

History

Founder and developer Charles K. Landis purchased a 30,000-acre plot of land in 1861, which followed with an additional purchase of 23,000 acres a decade later. His goal was to build an idealistic society based on the growth of agricultural industries and progressive opportunity. Soon after, the first home was built in 1862, as well as a training station that traveled across two major states.

Vineland was founded as a temperance town, prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages. Purchasers of land in Vineland were obliged by Landis to construct a home on the site within a year of ownership, to clear and farm 2.5 acres of land, as well as plant both flower and shaded trees between each home.

Statistics from the United States Census of 2010 share that there was an estimated population of 60 724 people, with 21,450 households and 15,230 families that reside in Vineland. Of the 21,450 households within the community, the estimated individuals that make up the households consist of the following:

• 31.3% with children under the age of 18
• 46.2% married couples
• 18.2% female head of household with no male
• 29% were individuals living under the same roof that were not related
