The Heights, also called Jersey City Heights, is a community north of Jersey City that overlooks the city of Hoboken and Croxton. The area is home to over 240 businesses that serve the resident of the site that can all primarily be found on Central Avenue. Along with the pretty extensive list of companies, The Heights also offers residents places to visit. One of them is Pershing Field, a memorial park that happens to be located on top of what was previously a military training ground. The park provides tons of grasslands, baseball fields, an ice-skating rink, and a pristine swimming pool for all to enjoy.
The Heights belonged to the New Netherland colony of Pavonia, whose administrator was the Van Vorst family. The oldest structure in Hudson County is the Van Vorst House, which was constructed in 1742 by the family. Once an independent municipality, Hudson City, the area known as The Heights was separated and became incorporated as a town in 1852 and soon after, a city in 1855.
Jersey City is comprised of so much history and foundation, including the establishment of the United States' film industry in the 20th century. Pathé, the world's most extensive film equipment and production firm, with an American manufacturing and studio facility in The Heights, was one of the companies involved.
Jersey City Public School District operates within The Heights and offers families a variety of schools to choose from for their children. Along with a list of public schools, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark runs the Catholic Schools in the area.
